THE FATHER FIGURE
I have known RFVA and have observed them providing
excellent services in our community for many years. They have a
reputation for excellence and are making an impact on our families.Richmond City Council Member
We honor fathers who are making a positive change in both their families and community. We work for them; continuing our efforts to spread better relationship habits and understanding to those in need.
This program...
is built to showcase fathers in the Greater Richmond community who are actively making a difference for the good of those in their home and in their surroundings.
We've built this as...
a celebration and night of encouragement for both fathers and mothers to be active in the lives of their children and to raise funds to support our existing fatherhood initiatives.
It can also be...
an opportunity to discuss the statistics surrounding fatherhood in the Richmond community. In the Greater Richmond area, more than 41% of all births are to single-parent homes. In the City of Richmond, it is above 64%. Since we started our fatherhood programming in 2003, we have reached over 3,000 fathers through our Boot Camp Programs alone.
It's based on...
our very real awareness that our work has only just begun. Along with our dedicated volunteers and facilitators, you can help us encourage strong fatherhood. Of the thousands of fathers who attended our Boot Camp for New Dads, 93% expressed more confidence in caring for their child. By having dads take a more active role in their child’s life, we can decrease the cost of family fragmentation in our area which is estimated to cost taxpayers over $205 million dollars annually. When both parents are involved, children are less likely to become a teenage parent, go to jail and live in poverty.
