Working on Relationships Shows Strength

Rebecca Blackwell

Being a strong father means taking care of your family and when you aren’t sure how to do that, you can turn to trusted resources for encouragement, support, and help.  In the classes that FFVA offers for Dads and Dads-to-be, the rules are: 1) no perfect dads, 2) no dumb questions, 3) the most important relationship you can show your kids is the one with their mother.  So, how do you make the most important relationship work to the best of your ability?  You work on it and you make it a priority.

By making your relationship as a couple a priority, everyone wins.  The husband/partner/father wins because each person in the relationship feels valued, respected, and appreciated.  The mom/partner/wife wins because she feels this as well in addition to feeling loved and cared for.  The kids win because they see mom and dad working together and they feel secure in their future.  If the couple relationship is the most important relationship a man can show his kids (or will show his kids when he has them), then, starting there should be his priority.  Take advantage of couples coaching or a couple checkup to make your relationships and marriages stronger!  The coaching program is so effective that the chance of divorce is reduced by 30% because the couple has an opportunity to discuss key aspects of being married and doing life together. Coaching does not show weakness, it show a commitment to make your relationship stronger.  That’s great news for everyone involved in strengthening the community and families too. Of course, another easy way to prioritize the couple relationship is to have fun on a date night and not talk about stressful or controversial topics; talk about things you like and why you like them.  Get close and connected to keep the relationship future focused and strong.
